2024 - 2025
16.9.24
Today, we had Rachel from Coram Life Education who came into class to discuss our mental and physical health and the connection between the two. We explored these through the Wellbeing Wheel. We also considered how to ensure that online behaviour is healthy and balanced. Using the interactive resources, we explored how our body systems work together to keep us alive. We were given the opportunity to discuss not only what a drug is, but how drugs can be used for medical and non-medical reasons. The risks of smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol were also explored, although there was an emphasis on the fact that an increasing number of young people choosing not take these risks. Through role-play we explored the influence of friends on decision making. We identified and practised our assertiveness skills. The importance of our basic human emotional needs in our decision making was threaded through the workshop.
Year 5 Residential Trip
Kingswood
We were lucky enough to go on an adventurous trip to Kingwood in Wales. We stayed here overnight and had two full days- packed with fun and excitement. We showed our British Values as we worked together as a team and respected each other. We had the best time EVER and hope to go back again!
Have a look at just some of the photos below :)
Year 5 Trip to MOSI
As part of our theme on the Industrial Revolution, Year 5 and 6 visited MOSI today and got to experience life in the 1800s. We were the lucky enough to see The Rocket as it was on exhibition there. It was a fantastic day!
Visitors & Trips
13th March 2018 - Today we had a visit from Nigel and Andy from Rochdale Council Recycling Team. We had a great time learning about the benefits of the 4Rs - Reduce, Recycle, Reuse and Recover and we were also educated in the potential problems which may lie ahead if we don't think about recycling. A really interesting workshop.
September 2017 - To support this half term's theme of The Industrial Revolution and the life of a Victorian street child we walked around the local area to discover the features and buildings that still remain from the Victorian era.
Wednesday 8th February 2017
Today, Year 5 took part in a Science lesson at Hollingworth Academy. All the children were instructed in the safety requirements of a laboratory and then had a lesson to discover the ph properties of various liquids and whether they were acid, alkali or neutral. We discussed our results and then finished off by learning more about the school day, facilities and clubs available at Hollingworth Academy.
A big thank you to Mrs Edmunds and Mrs O'Hare for organising our visit and we can't wait to join in some more fun activities soon.
We had a visit from the NSPCC and their mascot - Buddy - helped us to understand our rights "The right to speak out and be heard, the right to be safe and the right to get help when we need it."
We had a workshop where we discussed keeping safe and how we should talk to someone if we have any worries
Touchstones Museum - October 2016
To complete our theme of the Industrial Revolution and the the life of a Victorian school child, we visited Touchstones Museum in Rochdale.
We experienced the hardships children endured at school and at home and learnt about the cotton industry, shopping and the role of the Co-operative movement in helping poor people.
